Color Block Blues-Brights at Work
Color block at work? Yes ma’am! Today’s post is all about bringing those bright summer colors into the office. Don’t be afraid to brighten up your look for some fun!
Hello Lovelies!
Coming off a short holiday to a full work week is always tough. Sometimes, what helps me get out of my morning slump is putting on some bright colors to match the summer weather. Wearing brighter colors can help you feel happier and more awake, two feelings you absolutely need at the office.
One way to bring color into your look is by color blocking. I know, I know, color block seems so cheesy but when done right it can be chic and intriguing. An easy way to execute a color block look is by sticking to two colors only. Adding in more than two colors can get a bit harsh on the eyes.
I usually go for either complementary colors (colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel) or analogous (colors that are next to each other on the color wheel). Yes, a brief color harmony lesson for y’all lol! For this look I chose the analogous colors blue and green. Also, pairing a deeper blue with the lighter mint green made for a pleasant color contrast as well.
I got my blouse from JCPenney a couple of yeas ago and I know I didn’t pay more than $20 for it. Traditional button down shirts like this are great to have in your wardrobe because they’re a versatile piece. Your button downs don’t always have to go with suits.
I found this pleated A-line skirt on ASOS. I can’t remember exactly how much I paid for it but it was on clearance, so I know it wasn’t much. I really like a nice A-line midi skirt, they’re such a classic look and pair well with both fancy and casual tops.
I really love this skirt but I tend to wear the same two tops with it over and over, so when I wanted to switch it up I got some Pinterest inspiration. Pinterest is a great place to go if you’re having trouble styling a piece. I found a color block look and decided to recreate it with my personal style.
To accessorize I’m wearing my $3 H & M necklace from a couple of weeks ago. It was the perfect addition to my color block look. I recommend adding a necklace or a bet to your color block look to break it up. In my case, the top and skirt together looked too plain Jane, so the necklace was a nice touch. I opted for nude shoes because I don’t want to overwhelm anyone (myself included) with too much color.
One thing to remember with colors is that you don’t have to match head to toe in order to look good. You should focus more on coordinating colors and not matching them. If you’re going for a monochrome look, matching head to toe works but it is nice to bring in multiple dimensions.
I hope you all enjoyed this look! I’ve tagged some pieces below so you can get your color block on too. Comment below with some of your favorite color combos!
Until next time,
