Semi Formal Flowy Dress-A Night Out
Special occasions and celebrations are always fun! Whether it’s a work event, charity dinner or engagement party a little glitz and glamour can go a long way. Today we’re showcasing a semi formal dress and letting you know why you need a few of these in your wardrobe as well!
Hello Lovelies,
We’ve made it through another week and I’m happy to greet the weekend yet again! In case you missed it, this is your LAST CHANCE to enter our 1K giveaway (giveaway closes at 10am CST)! With spring right around the corner, this is a time that seems to be pretty heavy for after 5 events. A lot of social galas, charity dinners and events of that nature are popping up and calling for semi formal attire. When I see “semi formal” as the dress code I know I don’t need to reach for or go out and buy a full length gown. I have the ability to go for dresses that are a little shorter and more playful but still elegant and classy.

As you all know, we’re fans of the LBD over here on this blog! In my opinion, having a black dress to suit different occasions is ideal. If you have a LBD for work, dinner dates, semi formal and formal events you always have something to reach for in your closet when the time comes. I make a conscious effort to not buy a new dress every time an event comes up to save money. This beautiful hi-lo hem dress is from AKIRA and only cost about $40.
This is one of my favorite dresses for semi formal events because it’s the perfect balance between simplicity and glamour. Another thing I like about the dress is that it’s very light and flowy. This makes the dress easy to move around in and the style looks good on different body types. We all have had a dress that we loved but was very unforgiving in fit. If you have a dress that barely fits or you can’t breathe in once it’s zipped up, let it go. I’ve tortured myself in dresses that were beautiful, but made with fabrics with no give, leaving me unable to sit or eat!
This dress has sequin detail all across the top, which is the perfect bit of sparkle it needs. I like dresses like this that have a lot of embellishment at the top because I can skip out on wearing a necklace and not look bare. I actually prefer not to wear a necklace because it just clashes with the embellishment. You don’t want to do too much when it comes to accessorizing your looks. If your dress has a bold pattern or a lot of embellishment, less is more when it comes to jewelry. A modest cut out at the top also gives this dress a little sexy detail without showing too much.
Black dresses are so versatile so with this dress I could wear almost any style of shoe I want (and I have!). For this particular look I wore these silver pumps from my all time fave ShoeDazzle, and these are part of their signature collection. I went for a silver shoe to add just a tiny bit more of a pop since my overall look is understated. Since my whole look isn’t over the top, adding the metallic sparkle doesn’t make this a very loud semi formal look. When I’m getting ready for special events, I will usually either wear my hair in a chingon style like I did today or set my hair with flexi rods for big, curly hair. Whatever I feel will go best with my overall look.
I hope you all enjoyed this look. This dress truly is one of my favorites and I love that I can catch a little Beyonce wind when I’m wearing it. Don’t be afraid of the semi formal dresses. If you see one you like for a good price, go ahead and get it; you’ll be glad you have it when it’s time to dress up!
Until next time,
So elegant. Love the flow and the multiple dimensions of the dress. Sexy and classy.
