Three Powerful Books That Will Better Your Career
You all know I’m no stranger to self-help books that can better my career or even just help me thinking more critically. Here’s a short-list of some favorites that have made a HUGE impact on me and I’ll continue to revisit time and time again.
What Color is Your Parachute? By Richard Bolles and Katharine Brooks – First up on my list is the 2021 edition of What Color is Your Parachute that helped me identify my skills and interests that would lead me down a career path that suited me long term. Job hunting is not an easy effort but rather than applying to 100 jobs, I tactfully applied to 3 and got my #1 pick! The NEW 2021 AND 50th anniversary edition of What Color Is Your Parachute? provides job seekers extra insight into job hunting by making the most of LinkedIn, tips on interviewing virtually, and even support in diversity and inclusion! It’s truly a must read for any professional who’s looking to make the most of their skills and maximize their career experience
Atomic Habits by James Clear – If you’re interested in making better habits and habits that actually stick, this is the one for you! It goes into the science behind habits and different methods and processes you can do to help make them apart of your lifestyle vs. short term goals. It’s transformed the way I think about fitness, eating healthy, blogging and more. My favorite nugget of info is attaching your habits to your actual personality traits. So for example, if you’re trying to take up running, you need to identify yourself as a runner. It’s a bit of a mind trick but it holds you accountable of your habits and commitments.
How to Have a Good Day by Caroline Webb– The final book I’ll be revisiting is one I reference at least once a week! Focused on tips, tricks, and methods to get you off on the right foot and make good choices throughout the day, HTHAGD is dense but VERY informative! The book explores topics like relationships, productivity, resilience, energy and more. Each chapter also comes with a quick reference guide at the end for reviews.
What books, new or old, are on your list this year?
