Today we’re changing it up a bit from the normal “Wear to Work in the Daytime” look and giving you something extravagant for the evening. If you’re anything like me, you love getting glammed up and putting on a sparkly dress and false lashes that will inevitably be lopsided. For about the past 6 or so years, I (normally along with my parents, brother and most recently boyfriend) head to the McCormick Place for a fancy event called First Look for Charity. It’s basically the kick-off event for the Chicago Auto Show which takes place February 11-20, and it’s one of my favorite events of the year!

This year, I’m wearing a beautiful vintage black and gold sequin gown that I got from an estate sale. I was just browsing around my parent’s neighborhood and decided to stop in and as soon as I saw this piece I picked it right up and didn’t put it down!

The dress was initially a larger size but I knew if I took it to the tailor, they would be able to make it work for me. After we got the fit right, it was a match made in heaven! Every single piece of this gown is basically covered in sequins and I’m not mad about it!
Whenever I attend a formal event, I always wonder whether or not I’m overdressed. I don’t really like to be the main point of attention and overdressing is one way you can do that. But, the years have passed and the shyness has gone away and my new motto is, “I’d rather be overdressed than underdressed!”

With that motto in mind, this full black and gold sequin gown is giving me true glam vibes and I can’t get enough of it!

One tip for dressing for formal events, that I like to keep in mind, is don’t be too sexy. You never know if you’ll run into a co-worker, boss, or even someone you’re trying to network with and don’t want to leave them with a bad impression. I think this dress does the job and still makes a statement without showing much skin.
I think as far as jewelry goes for this dress, I’m going to keep it simple. I could basically go bare everywhere else but I can’t be without earrings, so I’m keeping them simple with a pair of studs.

To finish off the look, I went with a red lip. I’ve always been a fan of the color combo of red, gold, and black. I think the red gives it a nice pop and a classic, sultry look. Especially with the hairstyle I chose. The deep side part screams Hollywood glam!

To finish the look off, I went with this gold pump which is one of my favorite shoes to wear when I dress up. It’s stylish and it was super affordable. ($25 @ Target y’all!)
