The BEST 10 Dollars I Ever Spent!-Striped Work Dress

We love a finding a great deal on pieces for our wardrobe! This 10 dollar steal is no exception, and quite possibly the best $10 I ever spent. Read more about this budget friendly work look.

Hello Lovelies!

I’m back with yet another Ross find (I told y’all, don’t sleep on Ross!) and this one takes the cake. I love wearing dresses and skirts in the spring and summer because they’re much cooler to wear than pants. I surveyed my wardrobe one day and noticed that many of my dresses were either a dark color, made of thick fabric, or both. With that in mind, I’m always subconsciously looking for nice, bright and lightweight dresses for work. When I saw this dress on the 10 dollar rack at Ross, it was more of an impulse buy. The fabric seemed almost TOO light, but it was $10 so I was determined to make it work.

Needless to say, it worked! Baby, when I tell you this 10 dollar dress was money well spent! The fabric is on the light side so I anticipated needing a slip (do those still exist??) or a black cami dress under it but neither were necessary. For all my brown skinned girls out there, whenever you wear a thin dress (or white) it is NECESSARY that you wear BLACK undergarments! Nude still shows through on us but black is seamless. That’s what I did and it worked out very well. The dress is a great length and it doesn’t fit too snug on my body.

I draped my lightweight beige trench from SheInside over my shoulders as a “just in case” safety net. Chicago weather is very unpredictable so until summer hits I will wear some form of outerwear daily. I’ve been a victim to the temperature being 75 one minute and 45 the next. This jacket was under $20 and since it is lightweight it’s not a hassle to carry if you wind up not needing to wear it.

I typically warn against horizontal stripes because 90% of the time they don’t flatter anyone’s figure. I knew my little 10 dollar dress would be the exception  because of the size variation in the stripes. The designer knew that having the larger strips at the top and bottom and the more narrow stripes in the middle across the waistline was the way to make this dress look good and create that hourglass figure. Seriously, this is probably the only way I’ll wear horizontal stripes.

Since this dress has a square cute neckline, I opted for a shorter necklace. I felt like pearls were a simple and classy accessory to bring to this look. I’m not a fan of drop necklaces or anything that competes with the neckline.

I love that my twistout is poppin! Shoutout to Frizz Free Curls and their Blueberry Bliss collection. I know I’m late to the party but this is seriously a favorite of mine now. My twistouts are always nice and defined when I use this product.

Makeup and heels complete this look. I’m wearing one of my current favorite lipsticks which is the Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick in Hawkwind. When I tell y’all that this is the PERFECT nude lipstick for my skin tone I mean it! Usually nudes tend to be too light but this one is just perfect. I’m using the Maybelline Matte + Poreless  foundation combined with the NYX drop foundation. I’m the same color in both brands (mocha) but sometimes my Maybelline foundation is way too matte so I needed the NYX to bring it down on the matte scale some.

My shoes are my Steve Madden sandals and a great neutral pair to have. They work very well with this look, since brown is a color that complements just about any look. This dress could easily go day to night without making a single change. It’s classy, sassy, business and fun all at once!

10 dollar work dress look back

I hope you all enjoyed my favorite 10 dollar find and are inspired to give Ross a second look (if you don’t shop there already). Your pieces don’t have to be expensive to look high end, all you need is the right vision and accessories !

Until next time,

Gl
