Feeling Confident at Work in a Little Black Dress
One thing I love about style is that it’s a changing, evolving, and growing industry every single season. There’s always a new trend to try out or an old trend revisited, I see you high waist jeans. While it might be tempting to try out each and every new trend occurrence, some things just never go out of style…EVER. Which brings me to a classic piece in every woman’s closet, The Little Black Dress. Also known as the LBD and normally for nights out, I’m bringing it out of the past 9 PM timeframe and into the boardroom for a presentation perfect look. One of my favorite things about the LBD is obviously it’s versatility. I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever seen two women in the same LBD and look exactly the same.
The great thing about this piece is that you can style it in a way that truly matches your personality. For example, a leopard belt and heels can transform your simple, classic, LBD to a fun dress with an interesting (and always in) pattern. You can add in red heels and a red lip for a night out, or, in this case, opt for tights, black pumps, and a set of pearls for an office approved look while the weather is still warming up.
If you saw my rant about leggings in the office on IG Stories, you’ll know that I’ll always opt for a dressed up look vs. dressed down and the LBD is an easy no-brainer to rock any day of the week. In college, Maya and I even had Fancy Fridays vs. Casual Fridays where we purposely dressed up and not down. From that experience, I felt completely different when I was dressed up and dare I say… empowered?
While some might deem clothes and fashion frivolous, your appearance matters and not only externally. A good outfit has the ability to command a room and even change a mood. There have been many instances when I wasn’t feeling like heading into the office or even felt really overwhelmed with work in general. In those cases, I put on a look like this, fix myself up, and toss on a bold lip and head out the door. There’s huge power in at least looking pulled together so use that to your advantage when you aren’t feeling your best.
