Four Closet Essentials that Aren’t Clothes
There’s more to your closet than just the clothes you put in it. Find out the four key pieces you need in your closet that help set you up for success!
Hello lovelies!
I know we have a few posts about different wardrobe essentials and staples, but today’s post is all about closet must-haves that aren’t clothes. These items may seem simple or obvious at first glance but I’ve found that anything that makes my life easier is value-added. Keeping your wardrobe intact is just as important as having those key pieces. So, let’s jump into the list!
- Felt hangers– If you aren’t using felt hangers in your closet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for! Those little annoying strings that pop out of your clothes whenever you even think about moving? Cut ’em all off. Felt hangers will keep your clothes intact through it all. These things legit saved my life at a time when most of my clothes were falling off the hangers and getting lost in my closet. I used to have an array of random hangers in my closet that would snag and damage some of my clothes. Felt hangers make my closet look more uniform and keep my delicate pieces properly hung and off the floor. You can buy felt hangers at a reasonable price on Amazon or stores like Marshalls and TJMAXX.
- Steamer– A steamer is something I’ve bee wanting for a very long time and I promise it’s a great investment! I own quite a few pieces that are too delicate to iron so prior to buying a steamer my options were be wrinkled or risk damaging my clothes with the iron. You can go all out and get a standing steamer or a smaller handheld one like I did. My steamer was only $20 from Bed, Bath and Beyond and it’s perfect for both home use and traveling. Steamers are a staple in my closet now and can be used on everything from blouses to dresses to every day t-shirts. It’s less hassle than an iron (I personally have a strong dislike for ironing) and works just as well with getting out wrinkles.
- Jewelry organizers– These are essential for keeping your jewelry in good condition. I have been notorious for leaving jewelry all over the house, and subsequently losing pieces, but having a designated place for my jewelry to go has helped me keep up with everything. My jewelry organizers come in the form of two busts from Michael’s for my necklaces and an acrylic earring holder from Amazon. There are a ton of options for organizing your jewelry so you can choose whatever works best for your style and space. One thing I’ve noticed is that my jewelry lasts longer when it’s organized neatly. Jewelry that I get from H&M or Forever21 doesn’t turn or break as easily because it’s being handled and stored with care. Even my dainty necklaces that are prone to tangling are easy to handle now. Having jewelry organizers also help me choose how to accessorize my looks with very little fuss. Everything is easy for me to see so I don’t have to go searching and digging for the right piece to complete my look.
- Shoe rack– My shoe rack is another item that was a true game changer for me. To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure what I was doing with my shoes before I got one but I’m never going back to that dark time in my life. Shoe racks, much like jewelry organizers, keep (almost) all my shoes in plain sight. Putting my shoes away on a rack also ensures that my nice heels and flats aren’t getting mangled up in a pile or lost under the bed. When you invest your money in nice shoes, you want to make sure they hold up as long as possible. Having a shoe rack does just that AND has them all laid out so you can grab the pair you need for your outfit and go.
