From Desk to Dinner: How to go from Day to Night this Holiday Season
The holiday season is officially here and it’s time for tree trimming parties, family celebrations and of course multiple after work holiday happy hours. But when your schedule is jam packed, how do you go from desk to dinner?
Hello Loves! Every year, the women in my family gather for tea at The Peninsula for a seasonal tradition. The spots for a table start filling up quickly so we normally plan to go on a weekday evening. Of course it’s great for someone like my Mom who’s retired and can show up in her best dress but for me, I have to head to work first and that means finding an outfit that’s both office appropriate and holiday celebration ready. So how can I pull this off without Erykah Badu’s “Bag Lady” as my soundtrack? The key here is a little bit of versatility and of course some must-needed layers.
The main attraction is this lovely dress rented from Rent the Runway from Fuzzi. It’s a soft, mesh like material that flows well and is perfect for the holiday. The bright red color is a classic and a huge standout piece at work.
For the first look, I paired it with a simple black velvet blazer that was actually thrifted for about $4 (Banana Republic). A blazer is a great way to switch up an outfit so perfect for situations like this when I have two places to go on the same day. Blazers truly have the ability to not only add some flair but the right blazer for the office speaks volumes when you walk in the door.
To finish the look off, I opted for sheer black tights and black suede sling-backs. When it comes to must-haves, these are two that should always be in your closet especially in the winter months. I recently headed off to Nordstrom Rack to pick up some more tights and panty hose for the season. I’m normally not a fan but I figured it was the adult thing to do to prepare for the weather.
You might be wondering how we can make this look ready for our family tea now right? With a few easy changes….
BOOM! We’re ready!
Nix the tights, swap the shoes, and add a fun, bold earring and we’re done! The dress actually has sheer sleeves, which are a no-no for the office, so sporting it with a blazer the first time around made it wearable for the occasion. It’s incredible how a few simple changes can make the same dress look so very different.
And of course don’t forget your lipstick!
Who’s ready for the holiday season? I’d love to hear more about what plans or traditions you partake in each year!
