Pattern Beauty First Impressions: Wash and Go

When the news came out that Tracee Ellis Ross was dropping Pattern Beauty, her hair care line catered to curly, kinky and coily girls I had to get my hands on it! Here are my thoughts.
*This is not a paid post. All opinions are my own and results may vary*

You all know Sydney and I both wear our natural hair proudly. I’ve never had a perm (shout out to my mom) but I did straighten my hair regularly from about 6th grade through some of college. I am blessed to have had an amazing beautician who took great care of my hair so when I did wear my hair curly I didn’t experience heat damage. Sis was deep conditioning my hair wayyyy before it became a thing, so shout out to her as well.

I was among the many who were extremely excited to hear that Tracee Ellis Ross had created her own hair care line. Her hair is just as famous as she is and she’s one of the first women I can remember seeing on TV wearing their natural hair. Pattern Beauty seems to capture the essence of who she is and celebrates the many curl patterns and textures for black hair. I ordered two products from Pattern Beauty: the “heavy” conditioner for coilies and the leave in conditioner. Products were selling out FAST so I grabbed what I thought would be most beneficial to my hair needs.

I decided to test these products out on wash day with a wash and go. I feel a wash and go was the perfect style to test out the leave in with because that’s one style where leave in conditioner gets its time to shine. A twist out or braid out would have required me to layer in too many other products for me to truly see what the Pattern Beauty products were talking about.

A few more thoughts

  • The conditioner can also double as a deep conditioning treatment (please y’all, do NOT skip deep conditioning your hair) which is awesome because I was hoping to see a deep conditioner in this line.
  • My hair type is 3C/4A and I have a fine texture so the heavy conditioner worked well for me because it moisturized my hair without weighing it down. Before purchasing, be sure to read the description of each conditioner to see what would work best for your hair type.
  • When this post goes live I will be on day 6 of my wash and go. I still have A1 definition and my hair has luster! Luster is one thing that I’ve yet to achieve with hair products but Pattern Beauty did that!
  • Pattern Beauty products (the ones I used) are not heavily scented. I feel like as naturals, one of the first things we do is smell our products. They have a light scent that’s clean and pleasant but nothing too overpowering.

Let me know if this video and post were helpful and if you will now be purchasing your own Pattern Beauty products! I look forward to trying a few more myself an any new products they drop in the future.
