Where to Find Work Wear Inspiration
Don’t let a lack of inspiration hold back your wardrobe. Here are some of my favorite tips finding and work wear inspiration.
Finding work wear inspiration can be tough. I remember seeing a lot of young women get trapped in the chino, blouse, and cardigan trap especially in the cooler months. Unlike weekend wear, work wear also has a lot of parameters. No rips, tears, stay away from cold shoulder tops, certain materials and more. It’s easy to get into a style rut when you’re feeling uninspired.
For me, since fashion is a true passion, I’m always looking for work wear inspiration to put together for the office and share with you. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite tips to finding work wear style inspiration.
Start with what you have
We’re always watching our spending when it comes to style especially when it’s new trends. Start with your current wardrobe and take inventory of what’s already there. You should have quite a few staple pieces like crisp white blouses and a smart blazer. Then you should have some bolder pieces like pleated skirts, polka dot tops, and plaid pants. You should always have a mix of both staple pieces and trendier styles. Work with what you have before running out to purchase something first. Both of the pieces below were finds in my closet. Nothing rented or purchased new!
Do some research
Next, I love doing some research online through Pinterest. Search plaid blazer style in Pinterest, and even Instagram, and see how others styled a similar item. Try re-creating the look with your current wardrobe. You’ll probably find some interesting color combos as well that you hadn’t seen before. It’s crazy what swapping out a blouse or adding a pattern can do to your normal pair of slacks. For the look below, I fell in love with the black and camel combo so this is what I used in my own closet to make it happen.
Think out of the box
Remember, the item doesn’t have to be exact. For example, if I search leopard skirt on Pinterest, I see a style paired with a black sweater and a teal heel. I don’t have teal heels but I do have a rich green pair that could work. It doesn’t have to be an exact match so a little bit of creativity and out of the box thinking goes a long way. In the look above, I
Give it a test run
After you’ve taken inventory, try it on. Set some time aside on the weekend and try on the outfit. There’s been times where I saw a look, didn’t think I could pull it off, and then put it on and surprisingly made it work! You never know until you see it in person. If you put it on and it isn’t your vibe, that’s okay! Try sticking with one piece and swap out others while the item is on. You’ll be surprised with what you come up with! Just remember to hang your clothes back up on the rack after. Even though this dress is rented, I knew I could get more wear out of it through layering. I tried on a few different swaps with blouses and shoes and these two were my favorite.
