Carrie Bradshaw Inspired Special Occasion Look

Any girl who loves Sex and the City knows that Carrie Bradshaw is a style icon. For today’s look, I’m drawing inspiration from my favorite character on one of my favorite shows for the special occasion season.

I’m very excited for today’s look because I channeled my favorite fictional style muse to create it. Anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE Sex and the City. I’ve seen every episode of every season at least twice. With my love for the show comes my love for Carrie Bradshaw. I can identify with her in many ways and I’ve always loved her bold style. Special occasion season is upon us: weddings, graduations, bridal showers, etc are all filling up our calendars. I don’t like to keep reaching for the same mundane pieces for these events so I called on my inner Carrie to come up with a bold and beautiful look fit for any special occasion.

This look is so easy to put together and it looks so posh you’re guaranteed to make a statement when you walk through the door. In true Carrie Bradshaw fashion it’s just a little too much but the tulle skirt is the focal piece and the simple off the shoulder top adds an elegant touch.

Tulle skirts became popular a few years ago and I feel like they’re one of those pieces that will remain timeless as a statement piece. The volume and soft feminine layers are too pretty to ignore. I got my skirt from an etsy shop for my baby shower and it’s just too nice of a skirt to let it collect dust in my closet. I paid around $40 for mine, which was the best price I saw for a good quality handmade piece.

Following our rule of thumb for voluminous pieces, I paired my skirt with a fitted off the shoulder top from BooHoo. This top was only $15 so I got it in white and black. If you find a nice, versatile piece like this, I advise you to get it in at least two colors so you can create different looks. If I wanted to go for a more edgy look I could do the black top instead of the white and get a totally different feel.  Wearing a fitted top keeps me from looking too much like a giant piece of cotton candy and allows me to keep my shape.

This look is reminiscent of the last episodes of the final season of SATC when Carrie went to Paris and wore a lot of voluminous skirts and sophisticated Parisian style looks. If you’re going to an event like an engagement party or bridal shower you want your look to have that air of sophistication.

Carrie Bradshaw was no stranger to good accessories so of course I had to pull the best of the best for this look. I decided to wear some statement rings since I opted for a simple pearl necklace to complement the neckline of my top. I also reached for my gold box purse from AKIRA for a nice metallic touch. For me, it’s important not to go too overboard with heavy accessories for a look like this. You want your outfit to speak for itself so a few gold rings were just the right amount of added detail that didn’t take away from the look itself.

My shoes are also an AKIRA buy. I caught these babies on sale AND BOGO so that day was a winning day.  I was drawn to the unique stripe detail. The pattern is so versatile, especially since it’s black and white, they were perfect for this look.

This look is so fun, feminine, bold and classy I think it’d make Carrie Bradshaw very proud! It’s the perfect “dress up” look for the season. You could even dress this look down if you wanted with a denim jacket and gym shoes *BOOM* instant semi fancy look!
