Neon and Navy-Wearing Color to Work

Bright colors can be intimidating for some, especially in the workplace. In many instances, the fear of wearing bright colors is mind over matter. Today’s post will show how you can stand out with style and grace. Never be intimidated by bright colors again!

Hello lovelies!

Today’s look takes a step outside the box and explores the world of color! Now, you all know that we’re no stranger to color around these parts. However, I know from personal experience that although you may be drawn to a bright, colorful piece, you may be hesitant to buy or wear it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen in love with a piece online or in store, only to bring it home and keep it stowed away in my closet. My red pencil skirt, for instance, held a place in my wardrobe for 3 years before I actually wore it! Once I finally got comfortable wearing it, I promised myself to never shy away from a bright piece of clothing again.

Neon and navy

Say hello to my neon yellow skirt! I ordered this skirt from BooHoo and when I saw it online it was more of a true yellow. When my package arrived and I saw it was more neon in person, I still loved it and knew I could create looks with it. I paid about $12 for this skirt with it being on sale.

I’ve always loved A-line skirts and when midis became popular I started buying them up. I love the simplicity of an A-line skirt. Even with this one being a neon yellow, I can pair it with tops of different styles because it’s not embellished. I think the bright color is enough of a focal piece, right?

Since this skirt does scream “HELLO WORLD! I’VE ARRIVED!!” I decided to tone it down by wearing a navy top. When I put the look together in my head the color combo seemed too drastic but it looked great on. If you’re afraid of being too over the top by wearing a bright color, you can always try pairing it with a neutral or dark color to offset the brightness.

The navy top has a bit of interest itself with visible seam lines that almost act as stripes and a zipper detail in the back. Many of us shy away from dressing boldly so we don’t call too much attention to ourselves. That is a trait I’ve grown out of as I’ve gotten older and more confident. Daring to be bold and wearing more color can call attention to you, but if executed correctly it will bring more positive attention than negative. Bright colors also look amazing on brown skin! This neon yellow skirt has my melanin poppin’!

If you love bright colors, you can absolutely find a way to make them work in your wardrobe. If you’re stumped on how to style a piece, Pinterest is a great resource for finding creative looks. You may stumble upon a look you’d never thought of. If you are going to wear something as bright as this neon yellow skirt I would stay away from bold patterns. After work, you can mix it up and make it as funky as you want! For the office, it’s okay to command the room but you don’t want to be a distraction. Let the color speak for itself and add soft, subtle details around it.
