The Fashion Rule You Need to Break
Centuries have gone by yet many of us still abide by this old fashion no-no. Keep reading it and then learn how to get on the “I wear what I want” bandwagon!
Outside of goal planning, one of my favorite things to do every year, is to clean out my closet. Every few months, especially at the beginning of the year or quarter, I clean out my closet. I take a good assessment of what I have worn and haven’t worn and make room for new pieces. Recently, while cleaning out my closet, I found this pair of white pants from The Limited which I snagged in one of their closing sales over a year ago. I grabbed them thinking they would get a lot of wear and only recently started wearing them. I contemplated tossing them a bunch of times but I’m so glad I kept them especially for winter because they are officially a favorite.
So now, this brings me to my main point, whoever said “No white after Labor Day” made the worst statement of the century. I mean, how can you not love a clean, crisp monochromatic look? Especially something to match the snow right?
I’ve paired this look with a new favorite brand of mine called Marks and Spencer. Located in the UK, I was able to grab a few much needed sweaters from them and they’re the softest thing I’ve ever purchased for $11. Seriously, the softness BLEW ME AWAY.
Anyway, the true key to wearing white, especially in the winter, is to go for a more ivory/cream shade. For black women, ivory really makes your skin glow in my opinion and does a better job than a true, stark white. There’s just something about the creamy-ness of ivory that gives it a softer glow and not the almost blue-white that can happen sometimes.
When breaking fashion rules, I think the number one key is confidence. The more comfortable and and confident you are, the less people will question you. For example, I got away with wearing a crop top at work and no questions were asked. Now this isn’t as risky as a crop top, but an all white look in Winter is sure to turn heads.
Lastly, white looks great in contrast to richer coloAnd don’t forget your favorite camel coat either!
