Gingham for your Thoughts-Summer Casual

We’re all about our business but all work and no play makes for terrible work-life balance. Today, we’re focusing on a fun casual look and incorporating the ever so popular gingham print. Get ready for some summer fun!

Hello Lovelies!

We typically post cool work looks here to give you office style inspo but we do like to sprinkle in some fun looks her and there. If you don’t already know, #SummerTimeChi is unmatched when it comes to fun festivals, events and atmosphere. That being said, I wanted to give you all some cool summer inspo for your weekend plans. We’ve previously discussed some of the must have prints for the season and I’m bringing one to you today in a very easy to put together casual look.

That’s right y’all, I’m serving you gingham goes casual vibes! I know Sydney featured gingham in a work look recently, and I thought it’d be great to show how versatile the print is. We get really preachy about being leery of trends, so it’s good to know you’re going to get good wear out of trendy prints.

I got this gingham, off the shoulder (known as “ots” for the remainder of the post) top from the LOFT, on sale. I was actually stuck between the gingham print and a denim ots top but the stylist at the store warned me that the denim didn’t stay put. With ots tops you want to make sure you try them on before buying if you can so you don’t get one that you have to constantly pull back into place. When you’re out and about constant adjustments become a huge annoyance.

gingham top and distressed denim

I love this top so much because it’s a classic black and white gingham print so I can pair it with most bottoms easily. For today’s look I chose my favorite distressed jeans from Express to create a slightly sweet, slightly edgy look. This top is also very comfortable and fits perfectly on the shoulder. I don’t have to worry about it riding up or pinching my skin. LOFT hit the nail on the head with this one!

The sleeves also have a white tassel tie detail on the side which I thought was a nice tough to add just a little more to the gingham without being overwhelming. Since this is a loose fitting top I recommend styling it with fitted pants or shorts to preserve your shape. It’s easy to get lost in boxy cut tops if you pair them with voluminous bottoms.

This look is great for day or night. I could easily wear this to both a daytime festival or to dinner and drinks with my friends. If you wanted to dress it up a bit you could of course wear heels. I opted for these pewter colored, jeweled sandals for added comfort. I like to be cute and comfy on the weekends! I love these jeans because although they are a skinny fit, they have plenty of stretch. A tip I have for buying denim at Express is purchasing when they have denim BOGO 40% off. Their jeans can be pretty pricey so a deal like that can’t be missed.

With my top being black and white, I wanted to pull some color into my look. These yellow tassel earrings from H & M were the perfect touch to brighten the whole look! I feel more summery and fun with these colorful, dramatic earrings. I chose not to wear a necklace just because I felt all the pieces I had would clash with my earrings and the gingham print. However, feel free to add your own personal touches as you see fit. Style is all about creativity and making a look your own!
