How to Create a Perfectly Blended Wardrobe
It’s easy to think that your work clothes should be for work and your weekend clothes should be for the weekend. Right? But what if I told you you could DOUBLE your wardrobe by blending the two? One wardrobe, double the looks. Let’s get into it!
When I was first starting out my career and building my wardrobe I was a big fan of keeping everything separate. Weekend clothes for weekend and work clothes for work. Period.
Makes sense right?
At my previous company, we had an extremely relaxed dress code. Think jeans, t-shirts, flats, sandals, those kinds of pieces. I found myself taking a few pieces here and there from my weekend wear and remixing it for the week. Even more surprisingly, purchasing more neutral items that work for both the office and the weekend.
One of the things I’ve learned overtime is that, quite frankly, separating your wardrobe does no good. If you take the blended approach, you’re preparing to get the absolute most out of your wardrobe. For a population that on average wears 30% or less of their wardrobe, there is no reason to have a bunch of items on “reserve” for when you might wear them when in reality you don’t.
If you haven’t blended your wardrobe yet, here are a few tips to start and to truly maximize your closet.
Take inventory
You can’t wear what you don’t know you have. It’s important to stay fairly aware of what’s in your closet (take inventory with these tips). I’ve caught myself purchasing a few things here and there that never got worn. Donating or selling something with tags on should be a crime, and I’m guilty. Figure out what you have, what you *might* need, and what needs to go.
Research to find inspiration
I spend a lot of time on Pinterest getting inspiration for new outfits to wear. You’ll likely come across an outfit that you can re-create with items you already own. Try adding for work or for weekend to your search for new ideas (find inspiration there). For example, I wear my midi skirts (like this one) to work with heels and on the weekend with sneakers and a jean jacket. *Bonus, I can wear a midi skirt like above OR with a sweater and boots (a fave) for the fall. MAXIMIZE. Find that inspiration to get your ideas flowing!
PUT IT ON – Don’t wait for right before you go somewhere to try on an outfit. On a chill Saturday, take an hour or two and try on your wardrobe with pieces that normally wouldn’t go together. Different shapes, unique color combinations, different patterns. You truly don’t know unless you try and you might find something you like!
