How to Style: Jean Culottes for Casual Friday
Today, we’re talking about my love hate relationship with Casual Friday. When done right, it’s the opportunity to break away from the business professional look and bring in some fun work appropriate trends.
Hello Loves! Notice anything different? Well… we made a few changes around here with the blog design! We decided to switch up our color scheme and give our logo a makeover for a more sleek and modern appearance. It’s important that every now and then you do a little refresh of yourself to either switch up your look, routine or even wardrobe to give yourself a little life boost.
Anyway, today, we’re talking about my love hate relationship with Casual Friday. When done right, it’s the opportunity to break away from the business professional look and bring in some fun work appropriate trends. At worst, however, it’s an opportunity to pull a Meredith, Toby, or even Kelly (if you get too far into the trends) from The Office.
For many, Casual Friday is a shoe in for jeans but what about if you want to stand out or switch it up? No, I’m not talking about distressed jeans, because don’t. I’m talking about a fun jean look that’s comfortable, casual and won’t make your Manager revoke your Casual Friday Privilege.
Surprise! It’s culottes! Well actually, the description labels them as Wide Leg Cropped Jeans, but in shorter words I’m leaning toward culottes. I’ve really taken this trend and ran with it clearly. A reader slid into our DM’s asking how to style this piece and we couldn’t let her down! This pair is from Loft which has a great selection of both business and casual pieces. It’s a working girl’s go to brand and their denim selection is excellent.
I definitely like jeans on Friday as much as the next person but if you’re looking for a trendier pair, that’s not a skinny, walk this way! For Fall, I’m styling them with boots that are calf height or above and a sweater. You can take it up a notch by always pairing it with a blazer for a bit more sophistication.
I’m currently in love with the camel/rust/burnt orange color trend! For brown girls, it’s a perfect compliment to my skin tone and looks extremely rich when worn. At least the last 3-4 pieces I have purchased have fallen into this color scheme. This sweater is a from Asos under the Fashion Union brand
I initially saw this Alaia sweater on Net-A-Porter, but SURPRISE! It’s a whopping $2400. And since that’s not in my budget this season (or any season honestly) I searched around for a more wallet friendly option. I came across this dupe on Asos and fell in love with it more than the original! I really loved the cinched waist of the Alaia option so when I saw this AND it included pleats, a Sydney fave, I just ‘threw it in the bag’. It’s literally one of the softest sweaters I own too so win win for no itchiness!
