How to Style Shorts for Work this Summer

Shorts for work?! Yes, you read that right! We’re giving you all the tea on breaking the fashion mold and how to style work appropriate shorts.

Wow! I never thought I’d see the day I would write this post. Granted, these are very different times and work looks very different for all of us. With most of us working remotely and more companies having a more “relaxed” dress code, this is the perfect climate to step outside the box and put some (appropriate) shorts into rotation.

We’ve actually been seeing the buzz surrounding this topic on Instagram for a few months now. Lots of our fellow bloggers have been asking “Are shorts appropriate for work?”. If you’ve grown up on classic workwear principles, you’d be shocked to know how many women answered “yes” to that question.

The trick to pulling off shorts for work is going for longer hemlines and a tailored fit. These are two important qualities that separate work week and weekend shorts. Lucky for us, this style of shorts are actually on-trend right now so it’s easy to find shorts you can wear for work. While we typically advise against shopping super trendy pieces, I honestly believe tailored shorts are timeless. They’re comfortable, flattering and can easily go from Monday’s Zoom meeting to Sunday’s afternoon picnic.

The shorts I’m wearing in today’s post were gifted to me by M.M. LaFleur. They were kind enough to let us choose some pieces from their summer collection and I KNEW I had to have these shorts. This particular pair is linen so they’re lightweight and I’m here for the neutral color. For a polished work look, pair your shorts with a blazer to complete the look. If you want to go for fewer layers you can go for an Oxford style shirt or short sleeve blouse.
